On March 1, 2011 the Capital RC&D Council in Hammond released a grant to the Rural Fire Department in St. Helena parish. The grant was used to purchase 100 home fire smoke detectors to assist the elderly in rural areas of the parish. Rita Allen, St. Helena Rural Fire Department Chief, states the parishes Council on Aging will provide the names and addresses of the elderly residents that are in need. The Fire Chief's will follow up and install the smoke detectors in their homes.
Wild Hog Traps
A grant was released to the Upper Delta Soil and Water Conservation District in New Roads, Louisiana by the Capital Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council to address the invasive issue of wild hogs and the problems associated with them in Pointe Coupee and West Baton Parishes. Three hog traps have been purchased and will be coordinate through a rental program. The traps will be located at several locations through out the soil and water conservation district, and landowners will be able to rent the traps.

Renovators on Highly Erodible Lands
Capital RC&D secured a grant through LDEQ to purchase 4 Renovators that were placed at Local Farm Co-Ops throughout the Florida Parishes area. Pasture renovation equipment is designed to revitalize pasture land by slicing through dense pasture sods loosening tight or compacted soils without disturbing established grasses. This soil loosening allows rain water and fertilizer to reach the root zone of pasture grasses.
Entergy Community Partnership Grant
The Capital Resource Conservation & Development office in Hammond, LA received a $550, Community Partnership Grant from the Entergy Power Company in Hammond, Louisiana. The grant will be used by the Amite and Franklinton Soil & Water Conservation Districts, which cover Tangipahoa, St. Helena, St. Tammany and Washington parishes in Southeast, Louisiana. The goal of the Community Partnership Award is to purchase needed Environmental Education Equipment for the Soil & Water Districts to use in teaching students in the classrooms and at the planned Outdoor Classroom in Amite, Louisiana.
