Stormwater Inspector Training
The Capital Council is conducting a watershed assessment on the Yellow Water River and Ponchatoula Creek. This outreach workshop focused on training the city inspectors in the field of water quality management, and how to use Best Management Practices.
1st Time Home Buyers Workshops
Capital RC&D Council sponsored several home buyers education workshops in the Southeast Louisiana. This program assisted potential home buyers through the mortgage process. The series of workshops consisted of four classes which totaled 12 hours. Each participant finishing the series of four classes received a certificate of completion which is accepted by and meets the requirements of most home assistance programs.
Sugarcane Field Day
Capital RC&D Council co-sponsored the annual appreciation for the Sugarcane farmers of Louisiana. Capital Council helped sponsor funding for the Assumption Parish Sugarcane field day.
Earth Day 2010
Capital RC&D Council celebrated Earth Day in partnership with the Land Trust for Southeast Louisiana and the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation on April 19, 2010 in Downtown Hammond, LA and again on April 22, 2010 at Southeastern Louiaiana University. The events drew about 200 participants during the two-day event.
Art Will Make You Smart
The Lacombe Heritage Center, partnering with The Capital Resource Conservation and Development Council of Louisiana, and the Indian Museum of Cassidy Park in Bogalusa, recently held an exhibit and program called “Art Will Make You Smart”. This program which is used to raise awareness and interest in learning about the heritage was held on May 15, 2010.
Louisiana Master Farmer Program Training, Phase I
The Capital RC&D Council along with the LSU Extension Services sponsored a Master Farmer Training covering the parishes of St. James, Ascension, Assumption, St. Charles, Lafourche and Orlenas. Producers completed phase I requirements of the Louisiana Master Farmer Program.
